Dr. Kelly is dual trained physician in both dentistry and medicine. Originally from Orlando, Florida, Dr. Kelly is thrilled to return home to the Sunshine State after 10 years of practice & teaching experience as service as Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the VA Medical Center in Birmingham Alabama. Dr. Kelly serves as Assistant Professor, at the University of Alabama in Birmingham Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. At the start of her career, Dr. Kelly received her B.S in Biology from the Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama in 2001. She proceeded to receive her Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry in 2005 and Doctorate of Medicine in 2008, both from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry & Medicine in Birmingham, AL. Immediately following medical school she completed an internship in General Surgery at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Kelly then received her certificate(s) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Alabama and the VA Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dr. Kelly has attained a broad scope of training and experience in all disciplines of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. She is distinctively qualified to treat a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgical problems for pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. The oral surgery services Dr. Kelly offers include: moderate sedation, dental implants (including all-on-4 implants), alveolar jaw bone reconstruction, removal of wisdom teeth and complex extractions with bone preservation, head and neck surgery, biopsies and removal of cyst/tumors, salivary gland pathology, orthognathic surgery (corrective jaw surgery), facial trauma and soft tissue injuries, surgery for temporomandibular joint (TMJ), facial pain, and obstructive sleep apnea.
Dr. Kelly has special interest and training in sleep-related breathing disorders, such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea. She has successfully treated hundreds of obstructive sleep apnea patients with oral appliances, mandibular repositioning devices who have failed therapy with CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure). She has extensive experience in working with sleep medicine specialists to provide solutions both surgical and non-surgical for patients suffering with complications related to obstructive sleep apnea, snoring and sleep-related breathing disorders. She is currently a candidate diplomate with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kelly has worked with pediatric and orthodontic specialists to collaborate care for pediatric and special needs patients. She performs a wide range of complex dentoalveolar procedures that include: exposure of embedded teeth, frenectomies, extraction of supernumerary teeth, orthodontic extractions, and surgical correction of jaw deformities.
Dr. Kelly believes in staying abreast of the evolving advancements of cutting-edge medicine and has completed many hours of training and continuing education. One area of interest for her has been in the advancements of regenerative medicine and dentistry and the use of Platelet Rich Fibrin for facial cosmetic procedures, soft tissue and bone regeneration. She received an advanced certificate in PDO threading for facial skin lifting and skin smoothing. She is certified in microneedling treatments for hair regeneration, facial treatments to improve the skin’s texture and discoloration, acne scarring, skin damage, and common age- related changes.
Dr. Kelly’s passion is to provide compassionate and comfortable care to her patients. She specializes in providing safe, exceptional care in a professional environment. She understands the unique needs of the individual patient and provides care with the goal of providing education, anxiety reduction, and exceptional pain management to minimize discomfort and afford a comfortable, positive experience.
Dr. Kelly is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a fellow and board member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of the Southeastern Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Kelly enjoys an active family life with her husband and 3 children. As a family they enjoy the beach, biking, swimming, boating, and traveling. Dr. Kelly enjoys being a mentor to aspiring students, motivational speaking, cooking, painting, yoga, and exercising.
